Hi! My name is Susan.
I’m a 58 year old, Christian, straight, cis-gender female. Twenty years ago the Lord began to stir a desire in me to see the church become a more loving space for LGBTQ+ folks.
Being part of the evangelical church, I grew increasingly sad to realize what a poor reputation we had for loving gay people well. I was disheartened to realize that we had done little to educate ourselves in sound doctrine related to sexuality. We, as a body, could not articulate why God would design marriage to be between a man and a woman, as well as a host of other nuanced issues.
My husband Shawn has been after me for years to do more writing to share my thoughts about loving well. He would explain that I am like the majority of the church, being middle-aged, straight, cis-gender, and can speak to the majority of the church from their own vantage point.
This writing is an attempt to put things onto paper that the Lord has steeped into my heart and soul over the past ten years. My hope is that it will encourage you to actively love better and to press into the scriptures to learn about God’s plan and desire for our sexuality. I hope it changes the words you speak so that they would become winsome, loving, and wise.
